I originally joined the motor industry as a Business Manager and promotion to Sales Manager and GSM led to a role as GM where I thoroughly enjoyed the responsibility.
I then moved to Pendle (The Training Corporation) and had a great 3 years travelling the country teaching people sales process. I left to join a dealer group as Group Training Manager and combined that role with site responsibility for 2 franchised sites.
After two years I was head-hunted by ASA Insurance as a Training Manager for a brand new F&I product and subsequently became Sales Director. When the business was sold in 2002 I decided to start Profitlink Recruitment – and we haven't looked back since!
I have been working in the motor trade for in excess of 35 years and have enjoyed promotion through the ranks to Senior Manager status and ran a number of sites as General Manager.
I have successfully managed relocations and new start ups and have operated in large volume sites and smaller more niche franchises.
The highlights of my career have included winning awards and trips with manufacturers for achieving targets but probably being a National Dealer Council member gave me the most insight into dealer operations.
I was also delighted to be nominated as a finalist for the Motor Trade awards dinner – a first for the brand and the group because the effect it had on the business was remarkable.
My move to the recruitment industry was a surprise to me because I saw myself as a "motor trade man" but actually my 3½ years have been amongst the most enjoyable of my career because of the people I meet – clients and candidates!!
Since joining the Motor Trade in the early 70s, I've had a progressive career within the industry gaining experience in a variety of roles whilst acquiring a comprehensive knowledge in both Sales and Aftersales, encompassing Car and Commercial Vehicle operations.
I've held a range of management roles through Sales Management of both New and Used departments, General Management and as a Group Operations Director for a multi franchised dealer group.
My background has been enhanced by having worked within both small and large businesses, including privately owned dealerships as well as Top 100 PLC groups giving me a broader spectrum of experience in all areas of Dealership management.
I've always enjoyed the retail environment and understanding the contrasts between working with volume manufacturers such as Ford and Vauxhall, Niche franchises and the prestige brands of Mercedes Benz and Audi.
I have continuously believed in the development of the individual to ensure high standards of professionalism, profitability and customer satisfaction and would look forward to working with our clients in supporting them to achieve this with the right people for success.
After developing and managing my own dealer group for 20 years, I exited the business to enable me to have more time to pursue my other interests. However the auto industry has a habit of getting into one's system, so after a period of time I found myself wanting to be involved in our great industry again.
I now work as an Associate with a few vehicle manufacturers and dealer groups on a consultancy basis. This enables me to work within the industry and give back some of my knowledge and experience.
Having known Rob for a number of years, and understanding the way the company operates, it was an easy decision to make to work with him and his team at Profitlink. Helping to find both the accomplished, and the new blood that is so important to developing our industry, is extremely satisfying. It's a great use of my experience in managing and developing people, and I like their method of getting "hands on" with the candidates. On many occasions as a dealership owner I was frustrated with recruiters who knew nothing about the candidate and were just a CV recycling service.
Profitlink is a great deal more than that!
More years in the automotive sector than I care to admit to. Often described these days as a veteran of the industry, not sure I love the expression but cannot deny I probably am.
Wandered into the industry after the bank manager told me to get a job with a car… started out as a Sales Executive and hustled my way up to Country Director. All points in between of course, Sales Manager, General Manager, Divisional Director and so on, you get the picture. Experience and knowledge is the message.
My role with ProfitlinkGroup is mostly one of recruiting high caliber resource for skill hungry dealerships, locating, screening and interviewing individuals before being presented to the client for approval.
Profitlink offer a turn key approach to recruiting staff, removing the time and effort that operational management find so difficult within their normal stressful days. No offering up of candidates CV's randomly for the client to interpret, Profitlink source and interview on site and refer to client management only if deemed suitable. I like this process and subscribe to it, it helped me when I was the Principal.
I have spent 25 years in the motor trade and enjoyed every role. My experience encompasses volume and prestige and has seen me progress to HOB in a large prestige site.
I have decided to use the knowledge and skills I have built up to work as a consultant. I have partnered with Rob & Profitlink Group because I have used them as a client and like their "hands on" style which fits with my own approach. I have already done a couple of projects with PLG including a new dealership build and mentoring of sales aftersales people.
I have also been involved in several recruitment assignments.
